Mediums:
I try to use mediums only towards the end of the painting and as little as possible. My usual choice are traditional mediums of 1:1:3 or 1:1:5 (stand oil, darmar varnish, turpentine) with a drop of Oil of Spike of Lavender. If painting mostly light areas, I would use walnut oil instead of linseed oil.
Supports:
Classens oil primed linen type 13 is my usual choice. Other options include Classens type 15 and 12, as well as lead hand primed linen.
Brushes:
Nothing beats good quality bristle brushes. There are many good choices out there: Robert Simmon's Signet, W&N's Rathbone, Silver's Grand Prix, Raphael, and more. Once you paint with good brushes from well known brand names for a while, you'ld be able to pick good ones from popular brands like Utrecht or Dick Blick for less.
I usually work with flat (not bright) brushes and occasionally use a filbert brush as well. Over time flat brushes become filberts anyways.
For Alla Prima painting I use Royal Langnickel 5590 series brushes in addition to bristle brushes.
